Veganonthego’s Summer Adventures 2016
Veganonthego’s Summer Adventures 2016, what a blast!
I feel like I am in grade school, writing my story about my summer vacation on the first day back to school.
What a gift to feel like a kid again…awesome.
Our Summer Holidays
This was the craziest summer ever! I felt like it was bigger than me.
I decided to go with the flow and make the best of whatever experience I was experiencing at the moment. That included play and work. I wanted to “be there” wherever I was.
Most of the summer was filled with a variety of adventures and lots of travel and fun. The summer started off with a trip to Northern Saskatchewan with my 87 year old stepmother Thelma.

The Food
What fun we had this summer with all the fresh produce, a brand new BBQ – first one in 5 years and all the family and friends we shared it with. A few stories in pictures below.
Thelma and the Wedding
Thelma and I were heading to my niece Ashley’s wedding and stayed at my brother Gord’s beautiful property just outside of Spiritwood. It was approximately 1600 kilometers, both ways. The closest airport was about a 2 hour drive from my brother’s place, so a car rental was in the works too.
Let me tell you when you get lost in the prairies, most farms and corners look the same!
The wedding was lovely, my niece looked beautiful and staying at my brother Gord’s home was fantastic.
Adventures with Lisa Chell of Modern Vegan Family
Next I left for my second adventure with my good friend Lisa Chell of @modern_vegan_family. If you knew Lisa, you would know that doing anything with her is going to be an adventure!
The day after I got back from the middle of Canada, Lisa and I headed to the west coast of Vancouver Island to a beautiful little town called Uculet. We spent 3 days just west of Uculet in Tofino, surfing (Lisa) and boogie boarding (me). Check out Lisa’s YouTube video of us at in our PJ’s……..
Bowen Island – A Special Place
On my return from our adventure on the waves, my husband Brent and I ventured over to Bowen Island to visit Brent’s daughter Chantelle and her boyfriend Matt. Matt’s family have a home on Bowen and they invited us to share a few days relaxing and enjoying the views. Matt took us for a tour on the boat when the waves calmed down; the whole stay was wonderful.
Work Adventures
Next I had a couple trips for work, out to Thunder Bay to do some training and to our head office in Calgary. In between every visit I was working on projects and moving them along each time I hit the home office.
The Ormsby Family Reunion
The family reunion was next on my summer agenda. My husband, I and my sister Karen drove for two days from the west coast to Stettler Alberta to attend the reunion with 60 plus other relatives. Lots of visiting, eating of course, bonfires, boating…a lovely time. On the way home, we stopped off to visit Lisa and her wonderful husband Joel in the Rockies. Fantastic to spend time with such beautiful souls.
Camping and the Garden
On the way home from the Rockies we picked up our granddaughter Shay-Lynn for our annual camping trip. We swam, danced and played with Shay Lynn and my niece and her family for 4 days. Shay went home after a week and Brent and I headed out for four more days of camping in our little Boler trailer.
Now I am in the process of making pesto, preserving my basil and kale. My husband Brent is busy dehydrating our pears and plums….a bit of a learning process for sure. Wow what a whirlwind of fun! Blessed for sure.
One more camping trip to come. Going north to Quadra island where we will hang out with our friends Mel and Fiel. So excited.
Hope your summer was everything that you were hoping for!
