Vegan Restaurants Vietnam
Vegan Restaurants Vietnam. Easy to do!
Going to Vietnam! Looking for some vegan restaurants in Vietnam? Well look no more, here is a list of my vegan friendly restaurant favourites! Key words to remember are “chay” that means vegetarian/vegetables. If the sign says that you are heading in the right direction.
Below are some of the great vegan friendly restaurants that we found on our travels in Vietnam. Some we found through the app Around Me and some we found through some vegans we met and others we were just fortunate to have found at all!
Check them out!
Nha Trang Area
Café Des Amis – Vegan friendly food, clean and tasty. Luckily after walking for a few hours we ran into a couple of vegans at a stand for mangos….we needed nourishment! They live in Nha Trang for the winter and walked with us while showing us a couple great places to eat. This was the first one, we stopped, we ate, we are forever thankful to them!
Lanterns – Best food in Nha Trang – serve all types of food, vegan friendly, a little upscale and well worth the dollars or should I say Dong! Another place highly recommended by our vegan friends and sooooo good. We went there twice, saving our second trip to celebrate our last night in Nha Trang. Both times the place was packed and we know why…the food to live for! Go there!
Co’m Chay Bo De – We found this place through the Around Me App by searching for vegan restaurants and loved it. At first we were not sure if it was vegan food or real meat! They did not understand us as no one spoke English and they eventually sent over a lovely young Vietnamese customer who spoke excellent English. She assured us there were no animal products in the food.
Its where the locals eat, not fancy, cheap, cheap and really good food. You can eat from a bit of a smorg for about $25,000 Dong, that’s about $1.50 US or you can order plates off the menu for a bit more. We tried both and prefered the menu, just because it was hot and fresh. All vegan! Ate there several times.
Banh Mi Chay – Chay stands for vegetables. There are lots of carts that sell buns, kind of like subway. This is the only one that we found that was vegan/vegetarian – you could get cheese on your bun if you want. Another spot that our vegan friends walked us too. We came back the next day and the owner, a lovely woman, came out and gave us a hug. She remembered us from the day before and was so happy we came back. So cool and absolutely delicious!
Hoi An Area
Green Boutique Hotel – We were fortunate enough to now we stayed at this beautiful little hotel. Wonderful. They have a restaurant for their clients and they really didn’t have much for vegans on their menu. However they have a wonderful chef and he totally catered to our needs.
Every night we would let them know when we would like dinner and they would create 3-4 unique Vietnamese dishes that the chef would veganize for us. Amazing food and service. Worth a call to see if they would accommodate you….he needs a bit of a heads up and you will be so happy. Better yet just stay there!
Quan Chay Dam Vegetarian Restaurant – right in Hoi An, down a couple back alleys and you’ll find this vegan friendly place. You kind of eat on the main floor of their home, not too fancy and the food is delicious and extremely reasonable. While we were there on one of our visits, a young man in the family was fixing a kettle…one most of us would have thrown in the trash. Looked like the father was supervising and letting him figure it out! Always a smile for us. Ask the locals how to get there!
Qaun Chay Vegan Karma Waters – Best French fries in town! Cool café, all vegan supporting a social enterprise. We rode our bicycles down this busy street and saw two signs for vegan restaurants. The trouble is it took us several rides back to find it again. Had to go way out back to the end of the yard to use the washroom and then back to the outside wall of the restaurant to wash my hands. This is the kind of experience you will have in Vietnam. Check it out!
Anniem Yoga and Vegetarian Restaurant – Very close the Karma Café, just a little sign on a tree saying Vegan Café. Lovely place, great food and lovely service. We really enjoyed eating on the outside patio, the owner was so pleased that we visited and as we left said “see you tomorrow”
Mermaids Restaurant – This cafe is in Hoi An, Old Town and there were line ups for this awesome restaurant. We thought we should check it out and see what the fuss was all about. They serve all types and food and is vegan friendly too. The food was fabulous! We know what the line ups were all about.
The really cool thing about this place is that it was the first restaurant in Hoi An, well before it became a tourist attraction. The owner learned to make many dishes from the foreigners that would come through town and she has a mixture of western and Vietnamese dishes. A little piece of history.
Hanoi
The first day we in Hanoi we walked for hours trying to find some breakfast. Finally we bought a loaf of bread (lots of bakeries here), a jar of peanut butter (in a market geared for westerners) and some bananas! Peanut butter and banana sandwiches with fresh fruit became our breakfast every day after that!
Aubergine Café – we loved this little café in the heart of old town Hanoi. They make all types of dishes and made us vegan friendly dishes that were delicious. The sesame covered eggplant recipe in my first newsletter was inspired by these lovely people. The food was always fresh and the service was perfect! We went to this café several times during our time in Hanoi. We even left a little note under the glass on one of the tables…kind of like signing the guest book.
Jalus Vegan Kitchen and Café – The best pesto pizza ever! I had the pizza and my husband had the bean burger, both were delicious. The washroom is fantastic….worth the trip alone. Check out this really funky café in Hanoi!
Com Chay Nang Tam – We found this restaurant on the Around Me App and it took us awhile to find this place. We asked a non Vietnamese woman who was sitting in an alley if she knew where it was and she walked us down the street and down a couple of back alleys to this great cafe! I’m not sure we would have found it without her. Once we found it,we didn’t really want to eat anywhere else in Hanoi. The food was all vegan, absolutely delicious and they had an extensive menu to choose from. Perfect!
Well folks, that’s my favourites. Take a chance, try them out. Enjoy the adventure!
