Vegan Restaurants Cambodia
Favourite vegan restaurants in Cambodia.
Cambodia is a wonderful place to visit. We spent 2 weeks there and I would definitely recommend a trip to this country rich in diversity and history. The people are lovely and always have a smile on their face.
We spent most of our time in the south, at the beautiful beaches and in Siem Reap visiting the temples and surrounding area. Here are a few of our favourite restaurants and experiences that we would recommend to others.
Sihanoukville area – Southern Cambodia beaches
We spent about a week on the beaches in the Sihanoukville area, with our primary location at Otres 2 staying at the Riverside Bungalows. A great place to hang your hat or should I say your bathing suit!
We walked on the beach every day and read many menus, the following are some of our best picks. One that is not listed was a little vegan hut on the beach at Otres 1….just keep walking and you’ll find it.
When we were there, all the little food spots on Otres 1 had been given their notice, they were supposed to be torn down for probably bigger developments. Some of the spots may have moved back one road off the beach, so it might still be there and the food was fantastic! I hope she survived the move.
Tamu Hotel, Sihanoukville Area Otres One Beach,– We had an amazing coconut curry and fresh spring rolls at this outdoor restaurant, right on the beach. A little more expensive than some of the local places and well worth it. The service was awesome and you can’t beat the view.
Dao Vegan Café, Sihanoukville in Town – The only vegan restaurant in the whole town – lovely lunch and enjoyed the wifi while we relaxed. Its right on the road to Serendipity Beach just below the Golden Lions.
Pacha Mama – Awesome little vegan restaurant on the river – Otres River Village….a really cool little village and café. We ate dinner here one night and liked it so much went back for breakfast. Good conversation with the owners too!
Lazy Beach When we were in the area, we went by boat to a beautiful island, Koh Rong Samloem and stayed at Lazy Beach resorts. The food was pretty good and the resort was spectacular. One evening we were swimming in the ocean after dark and the phosphorescence was like something out of a movie. If you have a little extra time and really want to get away from it all, go to Lazy Beach and stay for at least 3 nights or more.
Siem Reap – land of the temples including Angkor Wat
Chamkar Vegetarian Restaurant – Right by Pub Street, they advertise as vegetarian and all their food is vegan and delicious. They also share some of their profit with a social enterprise. Nice to support their work. We ate there 2 out of our three nights in Siem Reap it was that good!
Rice in Bamboo – if you happen to go to the floating village you will pass stand after stand of locals selling rice and bean in bamboo. Totally cool. They fill the hollow bamboo with rice and beans and stuff the opening with a banana leaf. Next they bake it over hot coals. When its cooked they cut the burnt edges off the bamboo and put it into the stand. When you buy your bamboo stick, you peel back the remaining bamboo and uncover the yummy sweet rice and beans. A real treat and something you probably won’t get anywhere else.
Visit Cambodia, they are rebuilding their country and tourism is a big economic driver for their country. The people are wonderful and the country has so much to offer.
