On my last trip to Regina Saskatchewan, I discovered four vegan friendly options that I would recommend if you are Vegan in Regina. Way to go Regina! When you travel, you’ll need to get creative on where you can eat and what you’ll eat. Ensure the restaurant understands what you can and cannot eat – spell it out! Some people will say they understand what vegan is and then bring you a meal, topped with cheese or covered in melted butter.
Another tip when you travel is to go ethnic. The food is delicious and again if you let them know you are vegan, no fish sauce, no butter etc., you should be able to find something you’ll love. In the following post, I will highlight a wonderful vegan restaurant, an awesome catering/lunch establishment, Thai and Indian restaurants. Four options for you to consider.
Vegan in Regina
My highest recommendation goes to a little place on 13th Ave that really rocks!! The 13th AVE Coffee House is a cute little place with an outside patio for those warm days. You order at the kitchen window and your food will come to your table, fresh and vibrant. I ordered the Green Curry Bowl, it includes green curry sauce, fried tofu, tomato, cucumbers, red peppers, snap peas, grated carrots and bean sprouts. It was so colourful and tasted yummy too! My friend ordered the Cathedral Burger and we both had a side order of the Citrus Beet Slaw…perfect!
For lunches, I let the office know I am vegan and they ordered me lunches from a wonderful little place that is open for lunch and caters too! For my lunch, I had the best meal of anyone! The colour was so inviting and the textures and flavours of my salad left me wanting more. The salad came with a variety of beets, pickled slaw, falafel paddies, sprouts, tomatoes, crunchy nuts, quinoa and a beautiful home-made dressing. They could bottle that dressing and make a fortune! Sprout Catering on Saskatchewan Drive is the place to order your next office lunch. Try the vegan options, everyone will be glad you did.
For my last two dinners in Regina, I went ethnic. The first night, I went to a little Thai place that I found on my last trip to Regina. Siam Thai restaurant on Hamilton. I love Thai curry so much and they were able to accommodate me with leaving out the fish sauce. Be careful lots of Thai dishes have fish sauce and they can’t always veganize it for you. As always the food was wonderful, the place was packed and the service was great.
For my last night in town, I tried a new place and I’m glad I did. The Caraway Grill brings authentic Indian food to Regina. As soon as you walk in you can savour the smells of wonderful Indian food. Again for vegans the options are limited as much of Indian food includes dairy. Either the gee (clarified butter) or paneer (Indian cheese). Let them know you are vegan and they will set you up with something wonderful. We started our with some Mixed Vegetable Pakora and then I tried something new, the Masala Okra. Delicious all around. Beautiful spices, some of the best Indian food I’ve ever tasted.
Next time I am in Regina I’ll see what else I can find. If you know of any great vegan friendly places in Regina, please let me know!!
