Last time I visited Fresh, I bought their cookbook called Super Fresh. Wow what a cookbook. They give us the recipes of the beautiful dishes they serve in their restaurant! Who does that! I love it! I like it when my tofu is amazing and I want more. This recipe from their cookbook, Super Fresh is so easy to make the results are delicious.
So delicious in fact that my husband Brent started morphing this recipe a little and making it his own. His version is a little sweeter, like him! BTW, he used to hate tofu, now he is the one saying, “Let’s have some tofu tonight.”
In fact, a lot of us didn’t like tofu when we started this journey to a plant based diet. The reality is you gotta know how to cook it and if you do; it can really add to a dish or can be an outstanding component on its own.
The Fresh recipe is my new all time favourite. Brent’s is right up there too. Follow me into the land of yummy tofu steaks…..
Marinated Tofu Steaks Fresh Style
What you will need for your Marinated Tofu Steaks Fresh Style Recipe
- 1 Package Extra Firm Tofu (organic if possible)
- 1/2 c Tamari or you could use Bragg Soy Seasoning
- 2 c water
- 2 T ground coriander
- 4 t Garlic Powder
How to make Marinated Tofu Steaks Fresh Style:
- Cut your block of tofu into four big slabs (steak style) or 1″ cubes, your choice
- Add all the remaining ingredients together and mix well to create your marinade
- Add the tofu steaks or cubes to the marinade and allow to soak up the gorgeous flavours for a minimum of 2 hours and up to overnight.
- When ready to cook. Heat up a fry pan till nice and hot (with a little oil), or you can grill on the BBQ or in your oven, your choice.
- Cook, saute, BBQ until both sides of the tofu steaks/cubes are golden brown, yum!
- Serve with your favourite sides.
- I love to serve with rice and a beautiful salad and some steamed veggies. Enjoy!
Brent’s Tofu Marinade
Not too worry I did not forget about Brent’s marinade!
His flavourful marinade includes Bragg Soy Seasoning, maple syrup, garlic, onion and finish it with a splash of white wine. Delicious! Saute the onion and garlic in a bit of olive oil, marinade the tofu in Bragg for 20 minutes, add to the onion and garlic mixture, make sure your pan is hot. Add some maple syrup and saute till starts to form a thick sauce, add a splash of white wine (optional). Reduce to a caramelized sauce is covering your tofu. Serve with veggies, rice, potato, a salad, your choice.
