There are a few easy steps to create this yummy dish. Prep the cauliflower, the batter, the sauce, and the garnishes. Once everything is prepped you are ready to dip your cauliflower in the batter and bake your cauliflower wings in the oven. A bit later you will add hot sauce part way through baking and again at the end of the bake. The Panko crumbs are optional, if you want extra crunch then you have one more step after the batter, to roll the wings in panko crumbs and then bake.
What you’ll need for your Spicy Cauliflower Wings
- One head of fresh cauliflower, broken down into bite-size pieces
- You’ll need a large baking sheet to bake the cauliflower wings – use parchment paper for easier cleanup
Ingredients For the Batter
- · 1 cup of flour
- · 1 teaspoon paprika
- · ½ teaspoon salt
- · ¼ teaspoon pepper
- · 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- · 1 ½ cups of non-dairy milk
Ingredients for the crunch
2 cups of Panko Crumbs (optional step after you dip the wings in the batter)
Ingredients For the Hot Sauce
- ¾ cup of your favourite hot sauce
- 1 tablespoon non-dairy butter
Ok, let’s get busy making these yummy wings. Start out with your prep, heat the oven, get the cauliflower ready and prepare the batter in a separate bowl, your panko in a separate bowl too.
How to make your Spicy Cauliflower Wings
- Pre heat oven to 400
- Break the head of cauliflower into florets
- Prepare the batter, place everything in a bowl and whisk together till smooth
- Place the Panko crumbs in a separate bowl, optional last step
Dipping and Baking
- Dip the cauliflower in the batter and be sure they are evenly coated, shake off the excess batter
- Roll the cauliflower in the panko crumbs (optional)
- Place the cauliflower on the baking tray
- Repeat till all the cauliflower is battered and on a tray
- Place in a preheated oven and bake for about 20 minutes.
- When it is easy to flip, a bit more than halfway, flip the cauliflower to crisp up each side.
Final Steps
- While the cauliflower is cooking, prepare the sauce. Combine the vegan butter and hot sauce in a small pot and stir until evenly combined. Bring to a boil and let simmer for 2 minutes.
- After 20 minutes, remove the cauliflower from the oven and brush the cauliflower with the sauce. Put back in the oven and bake for about 10-15 minutes more.
- Garnish with chopped green onion and your favourite salad dressing, spicy mayo (mayo and hot sauce) or mayo dill sauce (mayo and dill), lemon cashew cream (raw cashews, soaked, drained, blended with a bit of water and lemon). Your choice. Serve with a salad and you have a beautiful meal.
