Raw Almond Milk
Raw almond milk is so creamy good and extremely easy to make. All you need is almonds, water, a blender and cheese cloth or nut bag.
Another cool thing about making raw almond milk…you can use the almond pulp to make other dishes. Nothing goes to waste.
I have made my almond milk using cheese cloth and a nut milk bag. By far the easiest is using a nut bag, so much easier to squeeze the milk through the bag, to isolate the leftover pulp and clean up. Cheesecloth will work, a nut bag is awesome!
Now the good news is Ellie’s Best sent me a nut milk bag to try and I love it. The next great news is if you buy one of their bags directly from their site and use the code veganonthego – you will get 10% off anything you buy at their site. They are only shipping in US at this point, not too worry they are also available on Amazon – sorry no discount (yet). Either way check out their site https://elliesbest.com/
Come on, let’s make some nut milk…..
Raw Almond Milk
I just love this milk, it is so creamy and doesn’t taste anything like the stuff you buy in the store. You can make nut milk out of most raw nuts and add in some dates to sweeten if you like or a bit of vanilla if that’s what you like. Personally, I just like good old nut milk simple and plain. Your choice.
What you’ll need to make your nut milk:
- 2 c raw almonds (skin on) You could use other nuts too
- 4 c filtered water
- Blender (high speed is best)
- Cheesecloth or nut bag (the cheesecloth works, the nut bag works better)
- That’s it!
How to make your Raw Almond Milk:
- Soak your raw almonds in water for several hours. I usually soak them overnight
- Rinse your almonds thoroughly and place into your blender (high speed works best)
- Pour in filtered water. You can always add more water, depends on how creamy you want the milk to be.
- Blend until liquid state.
- Pour liquid through your cheesecloth (several layers) or into your nut bag. Get as much of the
liquid out as possible. Remember to place a large bowl under the bag to catch the milk. The great thing about Ellie’s Nut Milk Bag is it practically stands up in the bowl, making the whole process much easier.
- Pour liquid into a container for the fridge and enjoy! Mmmmm so good!
Now you will be left with a lot of pulp, and you’ll want to put that to good use too, if you are like me. I grew up with the saying, “waste not, want not”. Well it just makes sense.
So far, I’ve created two recipes to use my almond pulp and they both turned out really great. I made a almond pulp mushroom burger and an almond pulp nut bar. Check them out on the blog – just type almond milk in the search feature.
