Delicious Tahini
Delicious Tahini is you got it – delicious!
Recently I wanted to make a recipe that called for tahini. I looked in the fridge and guess what, the tahini was all gone. Bummer!
Well actually it turned out great for me because I decided to try and make my own. One of the thousands of recipes I want to make instead of buy.
There are a number of reasons I like to make my own ingredients, the first being I know exactly what is going into every mixture. They will be fresh, hopefully organic and a way way cheaper too!
What I found out was that tahini is ridiculously easy to make and really inexpensive compared to the pricey tahini in the stores. I am so pleased that I made my own and the only change I will make is double the recipe next time.
Do you want to make your own tahini? Excellent. Let’s get at it!…
Delicious Tahini
This recipe is so simple to make and takes only 3 ingredients for the basic recipe. How awesome is that?
What you’ll need to make your Delicious Tahini
As I mentioned above, if you think you will eat this regularly, you may want to double the batch.
- 1 c sesame seeds
- 3-4 T oil, I used a neutral oil – grapeseed oil
- Sea salt to taste (optional)
See what I mean, could life get any easier?
How to make your Delicious Tahini:
- Heat up a skillet on medium to medium high
- When the skillet is heated up, add in the sesame seeds
- Toast till a golden brown, stirring often. It won’t take long and they can burn quickly
- When the sesame seeds are a golden brown, remove from heat and allow to cool down
- Place the toasted sesame seeds in your food processor and start it up.
- Keep processing until the seeds start to turn into a crumbly texture. You may need to stop and scrape down the sides a few time whiles
- Once the seeds turn into a crumbly texture, add in the oil slowly. Depending on the texture you like, you may add in 3-4 Tablespoons of oil. I found 3.5 was the magic number for me.
- That’s it, you are done!
I hope you will try this out.
